Bagworms, Bagworms and more Bagworms

June 14, 2009

Bagworms are coming.  Be ready.  LOOK at your trees & shrubs and be vigilant.  Bagworms attach to a tree limb and take parts of the target tree and create a bag to hang out in.  You can usually find them hanging from the branches of conifer tree varieties, including:  Leyland Cypress, Arborvitae, Global Arborvitae, Cryptomeria and others.  Bagworms are known to devastate conifers in very short order.

Treatment Options:

Organic Plant Health recommends applying Talstar® P liquid insecticide on your conifer trees and other ornamental trees and shrubs every 30 days.  This proactive treatment will help reduce the number of bagworms that attack your trees but it may not completely prevent attachment.  However, applying Talstar® P liquid insecticide proactively and AFTER  bagworms arrive will usually take care of the infestation in short order.  Talstar® P should be reapplied every 10 - 30 days depending on the target insect, weather and many other factors.  Please read instructions carefully before applying.

Organic Plant Health stocks a variety of sizes of Talstar® P liquid insecticide for your convenience.  Talstar® is also available in a granular form for lawn applications.  This granular product, Talstar® EZ, is applied to your lawn using your broadcast spreader and will effectively help control insects in your landscape. Talstar® EZ should be reapplied every 30 - 120 days depending on the target insect, weather and many other factors.  Please read instructions carefully before applying.
